We have signed up to become a Modeshift STARS Active Travel school. Modeshift STARS is the national schools scheme that has been established to help schools encourage cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel, which improves the health and well-being of children. They also help make schools safer at drop-off and pick-up times, including the very successful School Streets schemes at many local Sheffield schools.

So far, we have:

  • Organised our first Road Safety Week in November, where every class had a visit from Janene Elliot from the Sheffield Road Safety team, who taught the children about safe road crossing, using her portable crossing light
  • Conducted a Hand Up Travel Survey to find out how our children and staff get to school and also how they would like to get to school. We discovered that lots of our children would like to cycle to school and we are working on ways to make this possible.
  • We have also joined the Living Streets WOW campaign, which is a very exciting scheme to encourage children to walk, scoot or cycle to school. This will be launched in January.

We are very excited to be working with STARS to make our school safer, help protect the environment and encourage our children to be more active and healthier.
