Parking Outside School

As you know, the safety of our children and families at drop off and pick up times is of paramount importance to us. We are doing lots to try to reduce the risks including having members of SLT on all gates at the beginning and end of the day, challenging dangerous parking and supporting children and families to cross the road safely.

In October 2021 we were pleased to have launched our own Modeshift STARS Active Travel project. As part of this scheme we set clear actions to help children to cycle, walk and use other forms of sustainable travel to come to school and we are also working with the local Authority to look into the proposal of becoming part of the school street scheme. We have now achieved our Bronze Level STARS Award which means that our school has been added to the list of schools being considered for a School Street.

We have liaised closely with the Local Authority on the matter and they have supported by increasing the road markings and placing PCSOs to support on some occasions.

Unfortunately, despite all of this there was an incident last week involving a child from another school. We are working closely with the Local Authority to reaffirm our collective concerns and ask that more is done to make our roads safer for children and families.

I know that the vast majority of our families and community members park sensibly, however there is a minority of drivers who do not, causing greater risk for our children. As such, there is more action needed to make our roads safer. We will be working with the Local Authority to progress these discussions.

In the meantime, please can we ask families to remind older siblings when collecting children to take great care when chaperoning children across the road.

Please can we also encourage all families who do need to drive to school to drop off and collect children, to park safely. This means not parking on double yellow lines, not mounting the kerb and taking extra care when manoeuvring vehicles.

If you want to avoid busy times in the morning, please feel free to attend our breakfast club which opens at 7.45am from the bottom pedestrian gate.

Thank you to all those parents who are now using ParentMail to order school dinners. Don’t forget to order on a Sunday. You can order the whole week or even three weeks in advance.

If you are still having trouble ordering, pop into the office after 9.30 and we will help you.
