DIAMOND – Year 5
In Diamond class we have Ms. Ellis as the Class Teacher. Our Teaching Assistant, Mrs. Ali, completes our team and we all share the same high expectations of both behaviour and achievement.
Our topic this half term is the “The Changing Role of Women through History”. This is a history based topic in which children will explore what the role of women from the Stone Age up until the Renaissance, the 19th century Victorian Britain, the Suffragettes and women’s role right up to modern day society.
In English the children will be looking at narrative poetry and using an example of this to write their own narrative verse. Following this they will be writing a science fiction story about a trip to space.
The topic in Science this half term will be “Living Things and Their Habitats”. This will focus on life cycles and will be enhanced by a visit and year group workshop with “Meet the Creature”. They will be looking at what is a life cycle, how do plants reproduce, what are the parts of a plant called and what part do they play in reproduction, what is metamorphosis and how do life cycles differ across species.
In reciprocal reading the children in Diamond class will be reading “Street Child” by Berlie Doherty. Sapphire class will be reading “There’s a boy in the Girls’ Bathroom” by Louis Sachar.
“Times Tables Rock Starts'” is an online programme that the school has purchased to support children learn their multiplication tables.
Homework will be set on Thursday and due in on the following Wednesday.
The following clubs will be available this half term:
- Homework club on Thursday
- SPAG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) booster on Monday
- Maths booster club on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday lunchtimes
- Handwriting booster on Monday lunchtime
Diamond class have PE on Monday and Wednesday. Children are required to have their PE kit on these days to change into for every lesson.
